ZAVA, inspired by the French words 'Ça va' (meaning 'how are you?') was founded by David Meinertz and Amit Khutti in 2010 before officially launching online under the name ‘DrEd’ in November 2011.

As pioneers in digital healthcare, we have carried out more than 10 million consultations across Europe and over 7 million consultations in the UK alone. Thousands of patients visit ZAVA via the web every day.

Every consultation is carried out by one of our experienced doctors in a safe, regulated way. We pride ourselves on delivering the highest levels of patient care for every patient who visits the site and have received well over 20,000 reviews across Europe (UK, France & Germany) with thousands of positive experiences.

At ZAVA we are proud to be a fully registered UK pharmacy, and are also one of the very few companies that have passed the recent round of CQC inspections for digital healthcare providers across all categories of care. The latest CQC report mentions we are: "providing safe, effective and well-led". For the category 'well-led' we even received 'outstanding'.

From DrEd to ZAVA

It all began with our first DrEd website in November 2011, which served the UK and Germany by supplying online medication and advice. Shortly afterwards, and following an investment upwards of $1.4 million, we launched in Switzerland and Austria and later in Ireland. In 2016 we established ourselves in France under our new brand name ZAVA. In January 2019, DrEd officially changed its name to ZAVA in Germany and the UK before finally changing its name in Ireland in October 2020.

Now, since launching nearly a decade ago, we've pioneered online healthcare by providing a convenient, intuitive and affordable service. We've so far carried out over 10 million treatments, curated vast resources of expert medical advice and information, and developed digital healthcare solutions that have shaped the very essence of what it is to be an online doctor.

David Meinertz (Founder & CEO)

David Meinertz is the co-founder and CEO of ZAVA, a leading telemedicine platform across Europe. ZAVA’s mission is to provide healthcare that is accessible and dependable, at a fraction of today’s costs. Hailing from a family of doctors, and as a chronic patient himself, David regularly experienced the ins and outs of visiting doctors and pharmacies to get his medication, and it was here he saw how telemedicine could not only improve his life but many other people's too. David holds a law degree from Humboldt University of Berlin and graduated with an MBA from HEC School of Management in Paris. He now lives in Hamburg with his wife and 3 children.

Our team of doctors are behind every treatment and medication, and they’re always ready to assist you or answer any questions you may have regarding your healthcare.

All of our doctors are all registered in the UK with the General Medical Council (GMC) and trained in providing healthcare remotely. Our clinical service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) who are also responsible for regulating services like the NHS.

Our in-house pharmacy team is regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Pharmacy

The ZAVA in-house pharmacy team processes each and every treatment and are regulated by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). They operate to the highest of standards to distribute safe, convenient care to patients across the UK and Europe.

Laboratory

Our testing services are carried out by our partner lab, The Doctors Laboratory (TDL), a UK accredited medical lab who is responsible for performing the tests and ensuring their accuracy.

Finding accurate online medical information can be hard, and it can be even more difficult to understand. We want to empower our patients to take control of their health by creating high-quality medical content that's clear, factual, and always checked by a doctor.

ZAVA is operated by Health Bridge Limited which is registered in England and Wales under company number 07392646. The registered office and the main trading address is Health Bridge Ltd (t/a ZAVA), 46 Essex Rd, London N1 8LN.

Health Bridge Limited is registered with and regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the regulator of NHS and private medical providers, under registration number 1-201500907. As such, we comply with the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

We follow strict safety standards and are subject to regular checks by the CQC. We work tirelessly to ensure the consistency and quality of our service. When developing this service, we follow the recommendations of NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence).
