Vaccinated arrivals (Day 2 PCR test only)

If you are fully vaccinated, or between the ages of 5 and 17 (regardless of vaccination status) and you’re arriving in the UK from a country that is not on the red travel list, you must take a Day 2 PCR test. We can provide you with this quickly and easily.

ZAVA has partnered with one of Europe’s leading medical diagnostics providers SYNLAB to offer COVID-19 testing (testing provided by Southwest Pathology Services, part of SYNLAB Group). SYNLAB is a UKAS accredited private provider listed on GOV.UK for COVID-19 testing. How to Order

1) Order your Day 2 PCR test

  • This test is for anyone who is vaccinated and is arriving in the UK from a country outside the red travel list.
  • This test is for any children travelling who are between the ages of 5 and 17.

2) Record your test booking reference number

After ordering your test, you will receive two emails. The first email will contain your order confirmation, and the second email will contain your 'test booking reference number'. Make a note of your 'test booking reference number' as you will need this to complete your passenger locator form.

3) Activate and take your test

Follow the instructions included with your test kit to activate and take your test in the first two days after you’ve arrived in the UK.


Do not forget to note down your P number. You can find this on the outside of your test kit box and on the sheet of stickers you need to attach to your sample.

4) Return your test

You can return your test by posting it using a Royal Mail priority post box.


You must make a note of your Royal Mail tracking ID. You will need this to identify your test if there are any delivery issues. You can find this number under the barcode on the postal tracking label attached to your test kit.

We recommend that you avoid posting your test kit on a Sunday, as there may be delays in receiving your results. Instead, post your test kit on a Saturday before 12pm, if possible.

Christmas services

Postal delays are expected during peak periods, such as Christmas. This can affect how quickly:

  1. your test kit reaches you after placing your order
  2. your completed test reaches our laboratory, to process. ZAVA is not responsible for the transit of your test kit to our partner laboratory.

Keep this in mind when you order your test and choose a delivery or collection method, and then when you return your completed test.

Royal Mail Christmas services (from 1 December):

  • 24 December: early collections only
  • 25 December: no collections
  • 26 to 28 December: Sunday collection times
  • 29 and 30 December: normal service
  • 31 December: early collections only
  • 1 January: no collections
  • 2 and 3 January: Sunday collection times
  • 4 January: normal service

Example: if you post your test after collection on 24 December, it should reach our lab on 30 December (subject to no service delays).

To help avoid any delays getting your results and leaving quarantine, we recommend that you:

  • order any tests that you’ll need once you enter the UK, ahead of time
  • regularly check your local Royal Mail collection and delivery times
  • return your completed test to our lab as soon as possible (for example, take and send back your Day 2 test on the day you return to the UK)
  • return your test directly via private courier, if you’re concerned this won’t reach our lab in time via Royal Mail. Or you can drop off your test at our partner laboratory in Taunton (we plan to open more drop off locations in the coming weeks). Follow the official travel guidance to do this safely, or ask someone to drop it off for you.

5) Get your results

You should receive your test results and information on what to do next in your ZAVA patient account, within 48 hours of receipt by Royal Mail.

How Day 2 testing works

If you’re fully vaccinated and entering the UK from a country outside the red list, you will need to take a test within 2 days to check for COVID-19.

If you take a PCR test, all you have to do is:

  • Order your Day 2 test before entering the UK.
  • Make a note of your booking reference number. You will need to enter this on your passenger locator form when you enter the UK.
  • Activate and take your Day 2 test within two days of entering the UK
  • Pack and return your sample via the prepaid Tracked24 envelope included. Don’t forget to write down your tracking reference number and post your test before the last priority collection to avoid delays.
  • We will email you to let you know when your results are in your ZAVA patient account. You should get your results within 48 hours of receipt by Royal Mail.

If you test negative for COVID-19, you are free to continue as normal.

If you test positive, you will need to self isolate in line with government guidance.

If you are not recognised as fully vaccinated and are travelling from any country outside the red list, you need to order a Day 2 and 8 test pack.

Completing your passenger locator form

Before travelling to the UK, you will need to complete a passenger locator form. For this, you need a 'test booking reference' number. We will email this to you after you have ordered your test. This number will always begin with ‘ZVAGB’.

Please note, it can take up to 30 minutes to receive the email containing your ‘test booking reference’. If you do not receive this within 30 minutes, please contact our Customer Support team.

Always enter your test booking reference where requested, exactly as it is shown in the email and list ‘ZAVA’ as your test kit supplier.
