ZAVA has partnered with one of Europe’s leading medical diagnostics providers SYNLAB to offer COVID-19 testing (testing provided by Southwest Pathology Services, part of SYNLAB Group). SYNLAB is a UKAS accredited private provider listed on GOV.UK for COVID-19 testing. How to Order
Fully vaccinated individuals entering the UK from a non red list country can take a Day 2 lateral flow test, instead of a Day 2 PCR test (as of Sunday 9 January). This also extends to children regardless of their vaccination status (children under 5 years old do not need to take any tests to enter the UK).
If you have already bought a Day 2 PCR test, you can still use this (for instance, if you prefer a test with a higher sensitivity to detect COVID-19). Your result will be valid. Alternatively, you can replace this with a lateral flow test and we will refund the cost of your old PCR test (note, both your old PCR test and replacement lateral flow test must be bought from ZAVA). Follow the steps on our refunds page (important: you will need to return your old PCR kit to us).
1) Order your Day 2 PCR test
This test is for anyone who is fully vaccinated and is arriving in the UK from a country outside the red travel list.
It is also suitable for children, regardless of vaccination status. Children aged 5 and over in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 11 and over in Scotland must take a Day 2 test within the first 2 days of arriving in the country, regardless of vaccination status. Children aged 4 and under do not need to take any tests.
Remember, since 9 January, you can take a Day 2 lateral flow test instead if you’re fully vaccinated and arriving in the UK from a non red list country.
You can order multiple test kits (for yourself and for others in your group).
If you are unsure if this test is for you or have any queries about your order, you can contact our Customer Support team on 020 3588 0292, 7 days a week.
2) Record your test booking reference number
After ordering your test, you will receive two emails. The first email will contain your order confirmation, and the second email will contain your test booking reference number. Make a note of your test booking reference number as you will need this to complete your passenger locator form.
3) Activate and take your test
Follow the instructions included with your test kit to activate and take your test in the first two days after you’ve arrived in the UK.
You must activate your test, otherwise we cannot give you your result. Please activate any tests taken by those under 16 years old, from your own ZAVA account.
Do not forget to note down your 8 digit test kit number number (beginning with ‘P’). You can find this on the outside of your test kit box and printed on the sheet of stickers that come with your kit.
4) Return your test
You can return your test by posting it using a Royal Mail priority post box.
We recommend that you avoid posting your test kit on a Sunday, as there may be delays in receiving your results. Instead, post your test kit on a Saturday before 12pm, if possible.
You must make a note of your Royal Mail tracking ID. You will need this to identify your test if there are any delivery issues. You can find this number under the barcode on the postal tracking label attached to your test kit.
Read our delivery page for more information.
5) Get your results
You should receive your test results and information on what to do next in your ZAVA patient account, within 48 hours of receipt by Royal Mail.

How Day 2 testing works
If you’re fully vaccinated and entering the UK from a country outside the red list, you will need to take a test within 2 days to check for COVID-19.
If you take a PCR test, all you have to do is:
- Order your Day 2 test before entering the UK.
- Make a note of your booking reference number. You will need to enter this on your passenger locator form when you enter the UK.
- Activate and take your Day 2 test within two days of entering the UK
- Pack your sample using the prepaid Tracked24 envelope included with your kit, and post this from a priority post box. Don’t forget to write down your Royal Mail tracking reference number and post your test before the last priority collection to avoid delays.
- We will email you to let you know when your results are in your ZAVA patient account. You should get your results within 48 hours of your test being received by Royal Mail.
If you test negative for COVID-19, you are free to continue as normal.
If you test positive, you will need to self isolate in line with government guidance.
If you are not recognised as fully vaccinated and are travelling from any country outside the red list, you need to order a Day 2 and 8 test pack.
Visit our Entering the UK FAQ for more information.
Completing your passenger locator form
Before travelling to the UK, you will need to complete a passenger locator form. For this, you need a test booking reference number. We will email this to you after you have ordered your test. This number will always begin with ‘ZVAGB’.
Please note, it can take up to 30 minutes to receive the email containing your test booking reference number. If you do not receive this within 30 minutes, please contact our Customer Support team.
Always enter your test booking reference number where requested, exactly as it is shown in the email and list ‘ZAVA’ as your test kit supplier.
This Day 2 test is for anyone who is fully vaccinated and entering the UK from a country outside of the red list. This extends to children aged 5 and over in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and 11 and over in Scotland.
From 4am on Sunday 9 January, fully vaccinated individuals entering the UK from a non red list country can take a Day 2 lateral flow test, instead of a PCR test. This also extends to children regardless of their vaccination status (children under 5 years old do not need to take any tests to enter the UK).
- Next day delivery: Your order will be sent out with Royal Mail for next day delivery as standard if you place your order before 4pm Monday to Friday. If you place your order on a weekend or bank holiday, your test kit will be posted the next working day. We recommend ordering your test early to make sure it’s ready for you to take within the first two days of arriving in the country.
- Fast results: You should get results and advice on what to do next within 48 hours from receipt by Royal Mail.
- Here when you need us: If you need more support or information about Day 2 tests, you can contact our customer support team or message a doctor for free through your patient account.
You will need to activate your Day 2 PCR test on the day you take your sample. This should be within the first two days of arriving in the UK. Activate it using the quick and easy form in your online ZAVA patient account.
You must activate your test in order to get your result.
You should return your completed test by priority post as soon as possible. This is to make sure your sample reaches our lab quickly without contamination.
Return your completed PCR test to our lab by posting it in a Royal Mail priority post box, using the prepaid Tracked24 envelope included with your kit. Check the last priority collection of the day, to avoid delays.
Remember to make a note of your Royal Mail tracking ID number. You can find this printed on the envelope included with your test, below the barcode. You will need this to track when your sample has been delivered to the laboratory. We do not take responsibility for any sample lost in transit. If you find that it has not been marked as ‘delivered’ within 48 hours, please contact our Customer Support team from your account.
We do not take responsibility for any sample lost in transit.
Please continue to quarantine until you receive your negative result.
If you test positive for COVID-19, you must isolate for 10 full days, starting from the day after you took your PCR test. You must continue to isolate, even if you feel well.
You can leave isolation early if you take a lateral flow test on day 6 and 7 of your isolation period (or later), and both results are negative.
If you are showing symptoms, you must self isolate for 10 days from the day your symptoms started (no matter when you took your test).
If you live in the same household as someone who has tested positive but you do not have any COVID-19 symptoms yourself, you are still legally required to self isolate. The only exceptions are if you’re either:
- fully vaccinated, according to government guidelines
- under the age of 18 years 6 months
We will pass your results on to the UK Health Security Agency, too.
Check the official goverment guidelines for more information, if you or someone in your household tests positive.
ZAVA uses the PCR (RT-PCR method) swab test. This is the same test used by the NHS. Test kits are CE marked and all samples are analysed in a UKAS accredited laboratory. The test is widely accepted in EU countries.
Our lab partner, Southwest Pathology Services (part of the Synlab Group), has verified the sensitivity of the PCR tests at 99.04% and specificity of 100%. So in a group of 1,000 people with SARS-CoV-2 virus, about ten of them will be given a negative result. This means the test did not detect the presence of the virus.
ZAVA does not accept any responsibility or liability for any costs arising from any delay, disruption or cancellation of your plans directly or indirectly caused by the results of your COVID-19 test. After placing your order, you can not amend it. This includes changing order details such as the delivery address. Please refer to our terms and conditions for more information.
When posting your test, it is your responsibility to make sure you use a Royal Mail priority post box and post your test before the last priority collection of the day. You will only receive your results in 48 hours from when Royal Mail receives your test (subject to delays and Royal Mail operating times at peak periods, such as Christmas). Posting your test after the last collection will delay receiving your results.
If you would like to track your parcel with Royal Mail, you need to record the tracking ID.
It is your responsibility to follow quarantine guidelines and make sure you take your test at the correct time in accordance with UK guidelines.
You must activate your test kit in order to receive your results. If you do not activate your test kit, you will not receive your results, and you will not be able to leave quarantine.
We do not offer refunds for Day 2 tests or our Day 2 and 8 test pack unless you are replacing a Day 2 PCR test that you can no longer use with a lateral flow test you buy from us. Read our refunds page for more information.
