Foundayo works similarly to weight loss injections by binding to the receptors of the GLP-1 hormone, but is available as a once-daily pill rather than an injection. Foundayo suppresses your appetite, this makes it easier for you to eat fewer calories and lose weight.
The biggest difference between Foundayo and weight loss injections is that Foundayo’s active ingredient, orforglipron, is absorbed via your digestive system, rather than under the skin.
The Foundayo pill contains the active ingredient, orforglipron, which is a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist. It works by binding to the GLP-1 receptors in the brain to suppress your appetite and slow down the time it takes for food to leave your stomach, also known as gastric emptying. This means that food remains in your stomach for longer, so you feel full for longer and are less likely to snack between meals.
The way Foundayo works also makes it easier to follow a diet and exercise plan because it allows you to eat fewer calories and makes you feel less hungry. Like other GLP-1 medications, Foundayo also helps to regulate your blood sugar levels by releasing insulin after you eat.
The average weight loss on the highest 17.2mg dose of Foundayo is 12.4% over 72 weeks. However, everyone's weight loss journey will be different. In order for Foundayo to successfully help you lose weight, you should take it exactly as your doctor prescribes it, and it must be taken alongside a diet and exercise plan.

In the ATTAIN-1 trial, the 36mg dose was shown to help:
There are two pharmaceutical forms of orforglipron: film-coated tablets and hard capsules. The film-coated tablets are available from 0.8mg to 17.2mg. The hard capsules (used during the ATTAIN trials) are available in doses from 1mg to 36 mg. The 17.2mg film-coated tablet dose has an equal effect to the 36mg hard capsule.
Like all weight loss medications, Foundayo does not work on its own, and it will take effort and commitment from you to help you reach your weight loss targets.
It is important that you take the Foundayo pill exactly as your doctor tells you to, following the dosage schedule and any recommendations they make. You will also need to commit to making diet and lifestyle changes.
As Foundayo reduces your appetite, it will make it easier for you to eat less. This will help you move into a calorie deficit, which is where you burn more calories than you eat, and is a key part of weight loss. At the same time, you’ll also need to increase the amount of exercise you do to make sure you are burning more calories than you are consuming. These are key to ensuring Foundayo helps you successfully lose weight.
Both the Foundayo pill and the Wegovy pill are oral GLP-1 tablets that are taken once daily. However, there are two key differences:
1. Active ingredients
Foundayo contains orforglipron, while Wegovy contains semaglutide, although they work in similar ways to help you lose weight by reducing your appetite, slowing digestion, and regulating your blood sugar levels.
2. How they are taken
Unlike the Wegovy pill, Foundayo offers more flexibility because it does not require you to fast before taking it or specify any food restrictions. However, in clinical trials, the Wegovy pill has a higher average weight loss of up to 17% over 64 weeks on the highest maintenance dose of 25mg compared to 12.4% at the maximum 17.2mg dose of Foundayo after 72 weeks.
Foundayo pills are available in 6 strengths, which are gradually increased over a few months. The starting dose of Foundayo is 0.8mg per day. The dose is then increased every 30 days until you reach the maximum 17.2mg daily dose.
The available Foundayo doses are as follows:
Not everyone will reach or need the maximum Foundayo dose. Instead, your doctor will monitor how your body responds to the medication, any side effects you get, and consider your weight loss goals to help you find the lowest effective dose. If you have tolerated your current dose well, you may consider increasing your dose after 30 days.
Foundayo is taken once a day. You can take Foundayo with or without food as there are no fasting requirements when taking this weight loss pill.
You should swallow the tablet whole with water if needed. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet.

Ideally, you should take the pill at the same time every day to help keep your orforglipron levels stable, but when you take it is up to you. Pick a time that is most convenient for you and one that you will remember daily.
The active ingredient in Foundayo, orforglipron, starts to suppress your appetite as soon as you take your first dose, however it can take several months to notice the full weight loss benefits of the medication.
Foundayo is considered to be a long-term treatment for weight loss. In clinical trials, it has been studied for 72 weeks. Your doctor will discuss how long you should take Foundayo for, but it should be safe to continue taking for as long as it remains effective for you and whilst being supervised by a doctor.
Yes, you can just stop it if you want to, but we’d recommend to speak to your doctor first if you are thinking about stopping Foundayo. Although it is possible to stop taking GLP-1 medications, like Foundayo, stopping suddenly can cause your appetite to return and increase the chance of weight gain. It can also cause your blood sugar levels to rise rapidly, especially if you have been taking orforglipron to manage type 2 diabetes.
Like all medications, the Foundayo pill can cause side effects. However, they are often mild and improve as your body gets used to the medication. In most cases, mild side effects are manageable at home.
Very common Foundayo side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people) are:

Uncommon Foundayo side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people) are:
Most Foundayo side effects are temporary and mild and will go away on their own as your body gets used to orforglipron. However, you can manage them at home by:
If you get any side effects that get worse, do not improve, or are difficult to manage, contact your doctor for more advice. If you have severe stomach pain, are vomiting and cannot keep water down, or feel very unwell, get urgent medical help.
The Foundayo pill is suitable for adults who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above or 27 or above with weight-related health conditions, such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, or obstructive sleep apnoea, though sometimes our doctors may consider starting this treatment off-label if you would safely benefit from it.
The Foundayo pill may not be suitable for everyone. There are some medical conditions or medications that may make Foundayo unsuitable for you, as they may make orforglipron less effective or potentially unsafe.
Do not take Foundayo if you are allergic to orforglipron or any of the other ingredients listed in the medication, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
You will also need to tell your doctor before taking Foundayo if you:
You should also let the doctor know before starting Foundayo about any prescribed, over the counter, or herbal medicines you are taking. Some medications can increase or decrease the concentration of orforglipron in your system, while Foundayo may also affect other medications. Tell the doctor if you are taking any of the following:

Compared to the most popular weight loss injections available, Foundayo is a little less effective for weight loss, but it offers a needle-free alternative for people who are uncomfortable with self-injecting.
Foundayo is an effective weight loss pill that has the added advantage that it can be taken at any time of the day without the need to fast.
It is not yet known whether Foundayo will be available on the NHS. However, it was approved by the MHRA on 10 August 2026, meaning it will be available for weight management in the UK. Now, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) will need to assess Foundayo and decide whether it should be made available on the NHS.
If NICE approves Foundayo, it can take up to 3 months to become available through the NHS. So, it is unlikely to be available on the NHS until late 2026 or early 2027 at the earliest.
No, in terms of weight loss, Foundayo is not better or more effective than Mounjaro or Wegovy, which can result in an average weight loss of 21 to 22.5% compared to 12.4% with Foundayo. However, Foundayo is a once-daily pill that allows for flexible dosing because it does not require fasting, unlike the Wegovy pill, and does not require injecting. Which is better for you will depend on your personal circumstances, preferences, and current health conditions and medications.
Foundayo is considered a safe weight loss medication and has been approved in the US by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and by the MHRA in the UK. Phase 3 clinical trials have demonstrated that orforglipron is both safe and effective for long-term weight management.
If you are not getting the results you expected on the Foundayo pill, there could be several reasons for this. The first reason is that you may not have made the necessary lifestyle changes needed for orforglipron to be effective. Foundayo does not work on its own, and you will need to reduce your calorie intake and increase the amount of exercise you do.
Secondly, you may not have reached the most effective dose yet. If you have only recently started Foundayo, it can take several weeks or months to notice the full benefits of the medication. It is important to be patient both with yourself and the medication, and allow a sufficient amount of time for Foundayo and your lifestyle changes to take effect.
If you are still concerned that you are not losing weight on Foundayo, speak to your doctor for more advice.
