Day 2 and 8 testing step by step guide
1) Order your test pack
- This test pack is for anyone who is not fully vaccinated and is arriving in England from an amber list country.
- This test pack is not for children. Children between 5 and 18 years old need a Day 2 test.
If you are unsure if this test is for you or have any queries about your order, you can contact our Customer Support team on 020 3588 0292, 7 days a week.
2) Record your test booking reference number
After ordering your test pack, you will receive two emails. The first email will contain your order confirmation, and the second email will contain your 'test booking reference number'. You must note down your 'test booking reference number' as you will need this to complete your passenger locator form.
3) Activate and take your first test
Follow the instructions included with your test kit to activate and take your first test within 2 days of arrival.
IMPORTANT:
Do not forget to note down your P number. You can find this on the outside of your test kit box and on the sheet of stickers you need to attach to your sample.
4) Return your first test
You can return your test by posting it using a Royal Mail priority post box.
Please note: If you post your test kit on a Sunday, there may be delays in receiving your results. We recommend posting on Saturday before 12pm if possible.
IMPORTANT:
You must make a note of your Royal Mail tracking ID. You will need this number to identify your test if there are any delivery issues. You can find this number under the barcode on the postal tracking label attached to your test kit.
5) Get results
You will receive your test results and information on what to do next in your patient account within 48 hours of receipt by Royal Mail.
- If you test positive for COVID-19, you must self isolate for 10 days from the date you took your test.
- If you test negative for COVID-19, you must continue to quarantine until you have received results from your second test.
6) Complete your second test
Repeat the instructions above to take and return your second test.
- If you test positive for COVID-19, you must self isolate for 10 days from the date you took your test.
- If you test negative for COVID-19, you can leave quarantine.

How Day 2 and 8 testing works
If you have not received 2 doses of a vaccine that’s been administered by the NHS or approved by the EU or US (or your second dose was less than 14 days before travel) and you’re entering England from an amber list country, you will need to take 2 tests during your 10 day quarantine. ZAVA’s Day 2 and 8 pack contains both of these tests.
All you have to do is:
- Order your Day 2 and 8 test pack
- Make a note of your booking reference number. You will need to enter this on your passenger locator form when you enter England.
- Activate and take your Day 2 test on day 0-2 of quarantine
- Pack and return your sample via the prepaid Tracked24 envelope included. Don’t forget to write down your tracking reference number and post your test before the last priority collection to ensure there are no delays. Check priority post box times.
- We will email you to let you know when your results are in your patient account. You should get your results within 48 hours of receipt by Royal Mail.
If you test negative you will need to take, activate and return the second test on day 8-10 of your quarantine. You must remain in quarantine until you have completed the full 10 days unless you take a Test to Release (Day 5) test if you are arriving in England and the result is negative.
If you test positive for COVID-19 after your Day 2 test, you will need to remain in quarantine for a further 10 days from the day after you took the test. Because you are positive for COVID-19, you do not need to take the second Day 8 COVID-19 test.

Completing your passenger locator form
Before travelling to England, you will need to complete a passenger locator form. To do this, you need a 'test booking reference' number. We will email this to you after you have ordered your test. This number will always begin with ‘ZVAGB’.
Please note, it can take up to 30 minutes to receive the email containing your ‘test booking reference’. If you do not receive this within 30 minutes, please contact our Customer Support team.
Always enter your test booking reference where requested, exactly as it is shown in the email and list ‘ZAVA’ as your test kit supplier.

ZAVA’s Day 2 and 8 test pack contains the 2 COVID-19 tests you will need to take when entering England from an amber list country if you have not received 2 doses of a vaccine that’s been administered by the NHS or approved by the EU or US.
The Day 2 test is used to find harmful variants of COVID-19 at an early stage.
It can take up to 10 days for COVID-19 symptoms to appear, so the second (Day 8) test is used to find if you have developed COVID-19 by the end of your quarantine period.
If you have received 2 doses of a vaccine that’s been administered by the NHS or approved by the EU or US, you need to order an amber arrivals Day 2 test.
-
-
- Take your Day 2 test within the first 2 days of your 10 day quarantine. You need to quarantine immediately after entering England and start your 10 day quarantine count from the following day.
- If you test positive for COVID-19, restart your quarantine from the day after you took your Day 2 test. Or if you are showing symptoms, restart your quarantine from the day you started showing symptoms (no matter when you take your Day 2 test). In this case, you do not need to take the Day 8 test.
- If you test negative for COVID-19 from the Day 2 test, continue your quarantine and take the Day 8 test on day 8 to 10 of quarantine.
- If you test negative from your Day 8 test, you will still need to complete the 10 day quarantine because it can take 10 days for COVID-19 symptoms to appear.

The Day 2 and 8 test pack is for anyone who has not received 2 doses of a vaccine that’s been administered by the NHS or approved by the EU or US and is planning to enter England from an amber list country.
If you have received 2 doses of a vaccine that’s been administered by the NHS or approved by the EU or US, you need to order the fully vaccinated amber arrivals Day 2 test.
The government reviews travel restrictions every 3 weeks, so it’s important to check before you travel. Testing requirements may differ in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
-
-
You will need to activate both tests on the day you take them. Activate each using a quick and easy form in your online patient account.
-
-
You should return your completed test by priority post as soon as possible. This is to make sure your sample reaches our lab quickly without contamination.
-
-
Return your completed test by posting in a Royal Mail priority post box using the prepaid Tracked24 envelope included. Don’t forget to write down your tracking reference number and post your test before the last priority collection to avoid delays.
Please make sure you note down your tracking number before returning your sample. You will need this to track when your sample has been delivered to the laboratory. If you find that it has not been marked as ‘delivered’ within 48 hours, please contact our Customer Support Team. We do not take responsibility for any sample lost in transit.

-
If you test positive for COVID-19 on your Day 2 test, you will need to restart your 10 day quarantine from the day after you took your test. You will not need to take the Day 8 test.
If you test positive after the Day 8 test, you will need to restart your quarantine for an extra 10 days from the day after you took your test.
If you do have symptoms of the virus, you must self isolate for 10 days from the day your symptoms started (even if this is earlier than when you took your test).
Anyone you live with or have travelled with must also self isolate for 10 days from the day you took your test.
-
-
If your results are inconclusive from your Day 2 test, you will need to take another test. Continue your quarantine and take your Day 8 test as normal.
-
-
Next day delivery: You’ll get your test kit delivered the next day, if you placed your order before 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).
Fast results: You should get results and advice on what to do next within 48 hours of receipt by Royal Mail.
Here when you need us: If you need more support or information about Day 2 and Day 8 tests, you can contact our customer support team or message a doctor for free through your patient account.

ZAVA does not accept any responsibility or liability for costs arising from any delay, disruption or cancellation of your plans directly or indirectly caused by the results of your Day 2 and 8 tests. After placing your order, you can not amend it. This includes changing order details such as the delivery address. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for more information.
When posting your test, it is your responsibility to make sure you use a Royal Mail priority post box and post your test before the last priority collection of the day. You will only receive your results in 48 hours from when Royal Mail receives your test. Posting your test after the last collection will delay receiving your results.
If you would like to track your parcel with Royal Mail, you need to record the tracking ID.
It is your responsibility to follow quarantine guidelines and make sure you take your COVID-19 test at the correct time in accordance with UK guidelines.
You must activate your test kit in order to receive your results. If you do not activate your test kit, you will not receive your results, and you will not be able to leave quarantine.
We do not offer refunds for Day 2 tests or our Day 2 and 8 test pack.
